Storkie
Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 2026
We collect only what's needed to make Storkie work. Here's exactly what that means.
1. Information we collect
We collect only the information necessary to provide ingredient analysis and sync your scan history. We do not collect your name, email address, or payment details.
Information stored on your device
- Scan history (paid users only): product name, barcode, ingredient text, analysis result, and timestamp — stored locally in SwiftData on your device.
- App preferences: your subscription tier (free or Storkie Plus) and your daily scan count — stored in UserDefaults on your device.
Information sent to third-party servers when you scan
- Barcode or product name: sent to product database APIs (Go-UPC, Open Food Facts) to retrieve ingredient lists.
- Ingredient text: sent to our analysis endpoint (a Cloudflare Worker) along with an anonymous app token. That endpoint forwards ingredient text to an AI model provider (OpenAI) to generate ingredient ratings and explanations.
No device identifiers, location data, or personal identifiers are attached to these requests.
Subscription and payment
Storkie Plus subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through In-App Purchase. We never receive your name, email address, or payment card details. We receive only a transaction receipt that confirms your subscription status.
App analytics
We use Apple's built-in App Analytics, which provides aggregated, anonymized data about app usage (such as installs and sessions). This data is not linked to individual users. You can opt out via your device's privacy settings.
2. How we use your information
We use the information described above solely to:
- Look up product ingredient information in response to your barcode scans.
- Analyze ingredients and return ratings and explanations to you in the app.
- Display your scan history (paid tier only) within the app on your device.
- Enforce daily scan limits for free-tier users.
- Understand aggregate app usage to improve Storkie.
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not build individual profiles or use your scans to infer personal characteristics beyond delivering the immediate analysis you requested.
3. Third parties and service providers
The following third parties receive data as part of delivering Storkie's core functionality. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies.
4. Data retention
- On your device: Scan history is stored locally and remains until you delete it within the app or uninstall Storkie. You can clear your scan history at any time from the app's settings.
- Our servers: We do not operate a user-facing database. Ingredient strings sent to our Cloudflare Worker are processed and forwarded; we do not retain them independently beyond any infrastructure-level logging that Cloudflare may perform.
- OpenAI: OpenAI may retain API request logs according to its own retention schedule. We do not control this retention. Refer to OpenAI's API data usage policy for current details.
- Apple analytics: Aggregated analytics data is retained by Apple per their standard policies. This data is not linked to individual users.
5. Your rights and choices
Regardless of your location, you have the following practical controls over your data:
- Delete scan history: Clear all local scan history at any time from the app's settings screen.
- Uninstall: Removing the app deletes all locally stored data from your device.
- Analytics opt-out: Disable Apple App Analytics via Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising on your device.
- Manage subscription: Cancel or modify your Storkie Plus subscription via Apple's standard subscription management.
For users in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland (GDPR): To the extent any personal data is processed, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing, and to data portability. Because we collect minimal personal data and store it primarily on your device, most of these rights can be exercised directly through the app. For requests related to data processed by our third-party providers, please contact us and we will assist you in directing your request appropriately.
For California residents (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You have the right to know what personal information we collect and to request deletion. Given the minimal data we collect, most of these rights are exercisable directly within the app.
6. Children
Storkie is intended for use by pregnant adults and is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in jurisdictions where that threshold applies). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used the app and provided information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
7. Security
Scan history is stored locally on your device and protected by iOS device-level security. Requests to our analysis endpoint are transmitted over HTTPS. We use an app token to authenticate requests to our Cloudflare Worker. No authentication credentials or personal identifiers are transmitted with ingredient analysis requests.
No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We take reasonable measures to protect the information we handle, but we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If we make material changes that affect how we handle your information, we will provide notice within the app. Continued use of Storkie after a policy update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
9. Contact
If you have questions about this privacy policy, wish to exercise a data right, or have a concern about how your information is handled, please contact us:
